South West Calgary
The southwest section of Calgary is known for neighbourhoods with breathtaking mountain views, as well as the country’s largest civic park, Fish Creek Park and Chinook Centre - the city’s largest indoor shopping mall. The quadrant is often described as the heart of Calgary due to the heavy concentration of head offices contained within the downtown core.
Being the most mature of the four divisions, it is home to some of the most affluent neighbourhoods such as Brittania, Pumphill and Mount Royal. It is a popular choice for those who work in the core and who want to be close to the energy of the iconic 17th Avenue (AKA The Red Mile) – a mecca of restaurants, coffee shops, shopping and nightlife.
Outside of the inner city, there are several worldclass athletic and leisure spaces such as Repsol Sports Centre and Westside Recreation Centre. The Glenmore Reservoir is home to Calgary Canoe Club and Calgary Rowing Club, as well as the Glenmore Sailing Club – the largest of its kind in the country.
Spruce Meadows, a renowned horse jumping facility located near the southern edge of the quadrant is also home to the new Canadian Premier League soccer team – the Calgary FC. Calgary’s southwest has seven golf courses and a host of major shopping centres. Heritage Park, Sandy Beach and Edworthy Park are amongst the most popular attractions, making it the perfect place for professionals and families alike.
